Linux to Be the First Support USB 3.0
Sarah Sharp, a self-styled "geekess" and Linux developer at Intel's Open Source Technology Center who has recently been working on the Linux USB subsystem, announced on her blog that support of USB 3.0 will soon be integrated into the Linux kernel. This makes Linux the first operating system to support the standard. If you can't wait and have the expertise necessary, she includes instructions on how to get USB 3.0 support in Linux now.
According to Ankika Kehrer, "the basic specifications for USB 3.0 show it to have a transfer rate of 5.0 Gbps. The standard was announced in November 2008 by the USB Implementers Forum, Inc. The Board of directors of the Forum are represented by companies such as NEC, HP, Microsoft and Intel (which has the current chairmanship)."

Re: Linux to Be the First Support USB 3.0
I've few question. 1. Will the other operating system upgrade their system to support this USB 3.0? 2. When they'll officially launch this? 3. Will this USB 3.0 replace 2.0? 4. What's the transfer rate for the 2.0?

Re: Linux to Be the First Support USB 3.0
Hi,
Below is the answer for your question.
#1 - Of course yes #2 - The first USB 3 controller chips were sampled by NEC on May 2009 and products using the 3.0 specification are expected to arrive beginning in Q3 2009 and 2010. #3 - Not to replace per say, its just an enhancement on existing. #4 - USB2.0 -> 480 Mbit/s wheres USB3.0 ->5.0 Gbit/s

Thanks for the reply. 1. Ok. Good. I prefer windows. Linux 2. That means somewhere around July-September. But so far no news about it. 3. Oh Ok. 4. Really! 5 GB/sec huh! That means 10x faster than 2.0!

Its 5Gbits not 5GBytes....so 5Gb = 0.62GB
